Facility General Manager



Founded in 1882, Cabot Corporation (NYSE: CBT) is a global specialty chemicals and performance materials company, headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts. The company is a leading provider of rubber and specialty carbons, activated carbon, inkjet colorants, cesium formate drilling fluids, fumed silica, aerogel and elastomer composites.

Our manufacturing facility in Loncin produces masterbatches and conductive compounds containing carbon black, additives and thermoplastic resins used in construction, automotive, agriculture, packaging and other plastic applications. We work closely with our colleagues from the other masterbatch facility in Pepinster, Belgium, which is located about 30 kilometers away. As both a manufacturing facility and the European Application Development Center for our fine particles for plastic applications, our team in Pepinster is dedicated to providing the highest quality products while upholding the highest safety, health and environmental standards.

We employ more than 60 employees in each of the plants. Our team is continually committed to operating our plant according to the highest safety, health and environmental standards while manufacturing top quality products.

The Facility General Manager (FGM) is responsible for leading Cabot’s mission, vision, and values to develop a high-performing team that consistently delivers top-line sales growth. The FGM leads a team of department managers and is accountable for all aspects of managing complex chemical processes. This leader drives his/her business through a focus on performance (sales, service, and expense control), people (talent acquisition, training, and development), and process (standard operating procedures). This position requires a passion for process excellence, a drive for results, and the ability to lead and influence.

You will be overlooking 2 production sites in Loncin and Pepinster. There are 3 production lines in Loncin and 2 production lines in Pepinster, all operating in 5 shifts 6 days per week. The sites are producing high quality masterbatches. Pepinster site hosts Europe's Application Development Center for carbon black used in masterbatch products.

Job Responsibilities
  • Drives safe production of products that meet customers’ needs for quality and quantity. Facility generally comprises several production units; chemical processes are complex because of their volume and variety, specialized nature or strategic position in terms of new markets or geographies. May oversee other smaller facilities.
  • Leads activities of plant’s cross-functional staff and ensures compliance with all company and external standards/regulations for Manufacturing, Sales, SH&E, Finance, Quality, HR, and Community Affairs.
  • Nurtures a culture where all employees pursue continuous improvement. Ensures improvement of process capability / reliability, resulting in less process variability and reduction in generation of off-quality material. Ensures safe, reliable and cost-effective manufacturing of standard recipe products. Ensures that the appropriate management of change process is followed for recipe modification. Effectively manages local measurement capability, resulting in desired levels of measurement error for expected testing of Cabot products.
  • Actively sponsors and master effective Human Resource processes and effectively promotes the necessity of excellence in these activities throughout the site.
  • Drives meaningful local initiatives that enhance effective utilization of plant assets through prudent management of fixed and variable costs. Ensures long-term integrity and fit for purpose of all facility assets. Efficiently manages capital budget through use of the capital management system.
  • Drive cost efficiency- departmental budgets and expenditures to meet financial cost targets and objectives established through formal planning processes.
  • Leads community outreach that includes development, implementation, and participation in a facility plan consistent with our neighbor’s choice of philosophy. Supports efforts to implement and maintain the Responsible Care® Management System in line with the requirements of the RC14001®.
  • Effectively champions Performance Based Management by coaching and developing employees, direct as well as matrix reports.
Requirements
  • In-depth knowledge of chemical manufacturing processes and safety procedures. Knowledge of Continuous Improvement process and techniques. Strong focus on safety and environmental concerns. In-depth understanding of how plant integrates with Cabot’s manufacturing goals. Comprehensive knowledge of Cabot’s business and industry.
  • Ability to organize and manage diverse and multiple resources, including budgets. Analytical skills to evaluate a variety of dynamic and complex situations requiring innovative solutions.
  • Leadership skills to motivate and lead cross-functional staff. Ability to deal with external contacts and community as needed. May require negotiations with government agencies and other entities.
  • Orchestrates the pace and process of change to maintain operating effectiveness; challenges status quo, encouraging performance-improving changes even when faced with resistance; solicits input from all affected stakeholders to understand the systemic, cross-functional impact of change.
  • Bachelor/University Degree, preferably in a technical discipline.
  • 10+ years manufacturing experience, including prior people/budget management experience.
  • Track record in Project Management.
  • Knowledge in digitalization preferable.
  • Proficient in English and French.
